What’s Up With the Divorce Rate Higher than the Marriage Rate?

Marriage Or Divorce - Divorce Rate Higher Than Marriage Rate - Dr. Dar Hawks

Divorce is an unfortunate reality for many couples around the world. The divorce rate in the United States, Europe and Canada are all higher than divorce rates in other countries, with estimates ranging from 40-50%. While that may seem like a high number, it’s not impossible to have successful marriages – even under difficult circumstances.

No two relationships are alike and divorce rates do not accurately represent the success of a marriage. divorce rate higher than marriage

Every relationship has its own unique challenges and successes, making divorce rate statistics more of an approximation than an absolute truth.

It’s important to cultivate respect and understanding within your marriage in order to make it last; this means working together as a team to address problems when they arise and creating a supportive environment for each other. divorce rate higher than marriage

The divorce rate in the US is especially high, with statistics showing that almost half of all marriages end in divorce. However, this statistic doesn’t have to be a reflection of your own marriage or relationship. With dedication and commitment, you can ensure that your marriage will last despite any difficult times you may face. divorce rate higher than marriage

No matter what divorce rate statistics may indicate, it’s important to remember that every marriage has its own unique circumstances and dynamics. With understanding, learning relationship and communication success skills, it’s possible to create a successful, long-lasting relationship – no matter what divorce rates around the world may suggest.

The divorce rate is calculated by dividing the number of divorces by the number of married couples. This gives a percentage of marriages that end in divorce. divorce rate higher than marriage

Who Should I Go To For Support and Guidance for Improving My Marriage? divorce rate higher than marriage

When surveyed, adults between the ages of 29 and 55  said they would turn to family for guidance to help with their relationship problems.

  1. 55% said family
  2. 24% said friend
  3. 17% said their Spiritual Leader
  4. 4% said their therapist

And roughly 14% of therapists are trained to work with couples, the majority are trained to work with individuals illustrating why therapy fails to solve relationship issues.

I say your family and your friends don’t know anything about intimate details about what makes you or your partner tick.

Why can I say that?

Because the reason we go to our friends and family is because we wrongly feel that they made it through a similar experience and therefore they can advise us accordingly.  Likewise, Spiritual Leaders are not succeeding because the divorce rate has consistently remained at or above 50%.

Why then would you not do everything you can to learn how to have and be successful in a relationship?  More importantly, what you and your partner need to learn to grow and improve your relationship with each other?

Why would you not arm yourself with data to cause success?  Why would you not work with someone who is trained and licensed to teach you life changing relationship skills?

Society will continue to produce relationship problems and divorce until we make different choices.  Because we look to history to learn, to our family and friends and their history, we preordain our futures to follow a similar path because we implant the previous solution to our present situation.  Take an action that is unique from your experience or that of your family and friends.

Albert Einstein said “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”

He also said ”  Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new” and

“Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius — and a lot of courage — to move in the opposite direction.”

I agree with him, do something different this time.  Choose success by not following history and doing something out of the ordinary.  Do something that will guarantee your success.  Step through your fear and get help from a professional relationship coach or therapist so that you move through your relationship issues and heal quickly.

I hope this was helpful to you in knowing what the divorce rate is or is not, or whether it is higher than rates of marriage is unimportant.  What is important is what you’re doing to learn relationship building and communication skills to support your success in you relationship or marriage.  What you’re doing now is what matters, not what’s happened in the past.

Hi, I’m Dr. Dar…

If I could share just one thing with you today, let it be this: you have the power to shape your relationship into what you want it to be.

I am Dar, the Relationship Healer. I help couples to solve the communication and relationship issues that could potentially tear them apart.

Until I started on the coaching path that led to my formulation of the Relationship Languages, most of the problems in my life had been due to problematic relationships… relationships where I felt unable to communicate, where I was not being heard, where I was not feeling understood.

I have learned that, to create happy, healthy, and harmonious relationships even when you have differences, you have to learn how to give and receive communication in a healthy way. You have to feel safe expressing how you feel and what you need.

That’s the beauty of the Relationship Languages. Once understood, they are the key to safe, curious communication.

I’m here to help you on your journey to understanding and being understood.

From my heart to yours,
Dr.
